 Mayor orders demolition
53 uptown homes tom'row

In a test of political will, Mayor Dan Lim declared "all systems go" for the demolition of 53 houses tomorrow near the Integrated Bus Terminal in barangay Dampas, this city.
Lim sees no hindrance to push through with the demolition, as the mayor has repeatedly acquiesced to the illegal settlers who ignored his ultimatum several times for more than three months now.

POLITICAL WILL. City Mayor Dan Lim will display what this elusive political will is all about when he orders the demolition of 53 shanties near the Integrated Bus Terminal, this city. Demolition is set tomorrow.

A demolition team composed of employees from the city engineer's office and some hired carpenters will carry out the job.

The Presidential Commission on the Urban Poor (PCUP) issued a Certificate of Compliance on Demolition last July 28 for the city government to proceed with the squatters' eviction.

Lim met with the committee on anti-squatting last week to issue a Notice of Demolition.

As prescribed in the 30-day effectivity of the certificate of compliance on demolition, the city government is given until August 27 to complete the demolition that will be done in the presence of city police, Dampas barangay officials, DILG and members of the anti-squatting team.

It may be recalled that Mayor Lim issued an ultimatum and a Notice of Summary Eviction to make the illegal settlers vacate their dwellings.

The city government owns part of the occupied lots that will be traversed by the expansive road network scheme in the new growth area within barangays Dao, Dampas, San Isidro and Bool.

The city anti-squatting committee is headed by the city mayor and CPDO Eduardo Macalandag, city police chief P/CInsp. Jacinto Cesar, Segundina Abrea of the Tagbilaran urban poor association, Jose Pamaong of the PCUP, Fr. Ernesto Lagura of Holy Name University, Fr. Efren Bongay and Mr. Fortunato Cero of the Tagbilaran Diocese Social Action Center and city legal officer Atty. Doni Piquero.

The mayor refused to provide a relocation site for the displaced illegal settlers.
