Timothy Racho, Grade 6 student of Bohol Wisdom School made it again in an international
contest, this time in the 2006 China Primary School Mathematics Olympiad in Shandong,
China held Aug. 8-13. CARLO
TIMOTHY RACHO | | He
won a bronze in problem solving and another bronze in rapid computation. Some
of his teammates also garnered medals in other individual events and the team
Philippines won a gold in the group events.
The
only Boholano in the delegation, the young Racho went with 41 elementary students
from other schools, accompanied by Mathematics' Trainers' GuildPhilippines' (MTG)
Dr. Eduardo dela Cruz of Arellano University and some delegates' parents.
The
trip was actually the kid's first taste of 'independence' (he was one of those
who was unaccompanied by a parent), and he enjoyed it with positive twist. Some
MTG companions observed that compared to his first China trip last year, he has
now grown to be more responsible, well-behaved, neat and organized in his things,
fun to be with and easily makes friends. |
The
kid's parents, Engr. Henry Racho and Carol Alvarez are thankful for the kid's
exposures in math contests and training because these enhanced not only his knowledge
in math but his character as well. Their role was to encourage him to excel where
his passion is, support him as best they can, and pray for him. The kid virtually
did his part by going through an intensive training under the MTG here and in
Manila, and by a special review sessions by a math mentor before going to the
contest. Hence he was prepared to compete, and indeed he made it in China. His
family is grateful to BWS, Uncles Dido, Vieto, Harold, Herbert, and Harry for
the financial support, to the MTG and his math mentors for the training, and to
relatives and friends for their moral support and prayers. (mfb) |
