Bohol: Not 'crime area'

Philippine National Police Director Oscar Calderon said Bohol is not among the dangerous places in the country even as Central Visayas topped in Camp Crame crime statistics for the first half of 2006.

In an interview with the Chronicle yesterday, Calderon cited the high incidence of street and petty crimes as well as slayings attributed to vigilante groups in Cebu City as a contributing factor why Region 7 ranks comparatively higher than other regions.

2 missing after fuel tanker sinks

MANILA. Two tanker crewmen went missing after their vessel, which was carrying 2 million liters (528,360 gallons) of industrial fuel, sank in rough seas in the central Philippines, the coast guard said yesterday.

In a test of political will, Mayor Dan Lim declared "all systems go" for the demolition of 53 houses tomorrow near the Integrated Bus Terminal in barangay Dampas, this city.
Lim sees no hindrance to push through with the demolition, as the mayor has repeatedly acquiesced to the illegal settlers who ignored his ultimatum several times for more than three months now.
