MISS BAMMI CONTESTANTS

Close to 300 members of the Bohol Association of Metro Manila Inc. (BAMMI) representing 15 active town associations trooped to the Cardinal Sin Gymnasium on Dec. 9, for the second canvassing of the Search for Miss BAMMI 2007.

The Miss BAMMI search gained added momentum as five new candidates from Tagbilaran City, Sierra Bullones, Guindulman, Bien Unido and Ubay joined the tilt for the crown. Altogether, 13 muses were at hand during the canvassing, which also saw the association's cumulative take rising to P127,785.

With the third canvassing on January 13, 2007 and the winner's coronation on February 24, five contenders now lead the pack. Tubigon beauty Ma. Aysa M. Asombrado seized first place with a total amount of P39,000, while erstwhile leader Ma. Patricia

Pearl Manlangit of Sikatuna followed with P33,000. Tagbilaran's Haydee Rose Castrodes, a late entry, rose to third place with P22,500 while Lou Wella Mae Bernasor of Mabini copped fourth place with P9,300. In fifth position is Jennica Salabsab of Loboc with P7,020.

Engr. Pat Manlangit, Committee Chairman of the Search for MISS BAMMI 2007, announced during the evening that the crowned candidate will be association's Ambassadress of Goodwill. The winner will also be BAMMI's official bet for the Search for Miss Bohol Sandugo this coming July 2007. To participate in the latter, Miss BAMMI 2007 and her parents will be provided with round trip plane tickets to Bohol, hotel accommodation and allowance, Manlangit added.

Town associations without entries can still field their candidates, with the deadline extended to January 13, 2007, the third canvassing. Manlangit said, "We are giving a chance for other candidates from town associations to join. It is not too late. They can still catch up during the 3rd Canvassing."

The affair doubled as BAMMI's Christmas Party. A mass officiated by Philippine Coast Guard Chaplain Fr. Jude Besinga started the event, which was spiced by inspirational messages from BAMMI president Bernardo Calibo, BAMMI Board of Directors Chairperson Purita Soliven and BAMMI Finance Committee Chairperson Tita Lapez.

Main hosts for the evening were Project Director Joseph Rañola and Souvenir Program Chair Snooky Paras, ably assisted by Outstanding Boholano Search 2007 Chairman Cerie Uy and Core Group Secretary Dovic Tirol.

Rañola reiterated, "We are doing this for the love of Bohol. The proceeds will be used to support projects of the town associations by giving them their commissions. 50% will be given to the grand winner, 45% to the 1st Runner-up, 40% to the 2nd Runner-Up, 35% to the 3rd Runner-up, and 30% to participating town associations. The share of the mother organization will be used to launch a tourism project to boost the province's travel industry."

The JB Band provided life to the event as they performed with top Boholano singers Dhel Horest Estomo and Luz Loreto.
