Rene: No interest to lead opposition
By KIT BAGAIPO

RELAMPAGOS

Former Bohol Gov. Rene Relampagos has no interest of leading the United Opposition (UNO) here in the province saying all his efforts right now is directed towards attaining the third district congressional seat.

"I've been asked by UNO to lead the opposition here in the province of Bohol," Relampagos admitted.

UNO, which is now the umbrella coalition of PDP-Laban, deposed president Joseph Estrada's Partido ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) and Fernando Poe Jr's KNP and Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino (LDP), has been courting the former governor to set up an organization in the province.

"I told them this time around I am more inclined of running for congressman of the third district," Relampagos bared.

Relampagos said an alliance with the administration's political party would be advantageous to his plans while admitting that political leaders of different parties, including the administration's Lakas and Kampi, are pushing for his candidacy in the third district.

Believed to be among the active supporters of Relampagos is third district Board Member Concepcion Lim who is lobbying among Lakas party-mates to endorse Relampagos.

"I am opening doors right now," he said, "as long as it will ultimately help" him capture the congressional post to be vacated by last-termer Rep. Eladio Jala.

The former governor, however, finds it unnecessary to join Lakas just to be included in a party convention to choose the official candidate.

WHY IN THE THIRD DISTRICT?

"It's payback time for me to the people of the third district whom I owe so much," Relampagos said, as he see the district's many potentials in tourism which he desires to harness.

According to Relampagos, the third district is way behind the two other districts in terms of prominence.

In his sorties, Relampagos is advocating his priority programs on health, education, environment, economic upliftment, agricultural development, livelihood, tourism and human resource development.
