8th diocesan confab
on family, life today
By ATOY COSAP

The 1,500 enriched couples who are members of the Diocesan Commission on Family and Life in the Diocese of Tagbilaran will gather today at the Metro Centre Hotel, this city, on the occasion of their 8th Diocesan Congress on Family and Life.

With the theme "The Family: Transmitter of Faith," the congress will kick-off with a holy mass at 8:30 in the morning to be officiated by Bishop Juan de Dios Pueblos, DD, bishop of Butuan.

According to Sister Pilar Go, MMB, Diocesan Coordinator of the Commission on Family and Life, and Rev. Fr. Desiderio Magdoza, Diocesan Director of the Commission on Family and Life, there are three invited speakers for the day-long congress.

Bishop de Dios Pueblos will be the keynote speaker who will speak about the "Family: Transmitter of Faith" (parents as primary educators and formators; family: the basic community of love and faith, and family: sharing in the life and mission of the church). He will be introduced by Pabs and Margie Magdoza.

Bernard Cañaberal, professor, Ateneo de Manila University and visiting professor - East Asian Pastoral Institute (EAP) will talk about "Media: Challenging Family Faith." He will be introduced by Loy and Shionee Jalad.

Ed Sorreta, who will be introduced by Nick and Judith Ipong, will talk about "Communication in Marriage and Infidelities."

Sr. Go and Rev. Fr. Magdoza stressed that "the family is the first basic cell and community of society. The hopes and dreams of the Filipino family for life in all its fullness in the reign of God is one that never fades. The Filipino family nurtures a deep sense of the sacred and this brings the family and the nation to God, the ultimate Being and Creator of Life, and the reason for this hope."

They added that God works unceasingly in the Filipino family, in its culture of resiliency in the face of misery and poverty, stability in the face of unrelenting change and solidarity when it is threatened with fragmentation.

On the occasion, Sr. Go will give a welcome address, while Rev. Fr. Magdoza will deliver the statement of purpose.
