Lawmakers slam
statute on minors

 

The Mines and Geo-sciences Bureau (MGB) has blacklisted two contractor/claimants of quarry operations in the province for violations of environmental laws.

The MGB said that Tatong Tan of Tantrade Corporation here and Cebu-based Domingo Chua who has several mining claims (through several corporations) in the province failed to settle their obligations/penalties based on the findings of the environmental law enforcers.

The Chronicle, many times, had expressed our belief in the merits of the Parliamentary system. Too, we shared the view that it's time we give foreigners the right to own Philippine land and develop the capital-intensive mining industry as part of the constitutional economic reforms.

DOLE probes lists
for "aberrations"

MANILA. Labor Secretary Arturo Brion admitted yesterday that the controversy surrounding the leak-tainted June nursing licensure examinations was far from over.

At a press briefing, Brion said the Department of Labor and Employment (DoLE) was investigating what he described as "aberrations" in the three lists of nursing board passers from the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) and would submit a report on the results to the "proper forum" on November 6.
