Top rebel official surrenders
 

A high-ranking member of the Front 1 committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines - New People's Army (CPP-NPA) and known to be in the military's order of battle surrendered last Friday to Gov. Erico Aumentado after over 20 years in the underground movement.

Domingo Samuya, 49, also known as "Ka Aryong" and "Ka Boning" to his erstwhile comrades, negotiated his surrender through San Isidro town mayor and distant relative Roquillo Samuya who escorted the former rebel with wife, Vitaliana and their 17-year old daughter, to the residence of Gov. Aumentado mid-day last Friday.

ANILA. The man who knocked out the Philippines' brightest-and most loved-hope proved to be its worthiest hope after all.

Ronnie Alcano, the last Filipino standing after eight days of the World Pool Championship, prevailed in a match littered with errors and grievous misses, downing China's Li Hewen, 11-8, yesterday to reach the finals against methodical German Ralf Souquet at the PICC in Pasay City.

 P283M pledged for LGU jobs

More than P283 million worth of projects for local government units (LGUs) in the province were pledged by donor agencies during the Bohol Poverty Fair held last October 30 to 31 at the Bohol Cultural Center.

Donor agencies selected and ma-de commitments to fund and provide technical assistance to 154 projects from a total of 230 proposals of participating municipalities with an overall cost of P427,883,383 in said poverty fair, a major undertaking of the provincial government through the Bohol Poverty Reduction Management Office (BPRMO).

 Doubtless, Bohol is the new darling of the discriminating tourist. But uneasy herein lays the head that wears the crown - for it needs refining to stay Top Gun.

The beauty of Bohol is that in one effortless day, a tourist can
be shown paradise in its varied resplendent glory. But much needs to be done.

Let's be frank that there are resorts and restaurants that do not make the grade for world-class facilities. The service is not at par with a jaded tourist's discriminating taste. We are not saying there should be no less expensive places to go for indeed they serve a distinct market which also deserves to see Nature's wonders.

EYE SORE, INDEED. Authorities need to take action to prevent badjaos from loitering around the city begging from residents, not even sparing arriving tourists at the city port. A heartless mother uses her child to beg while roaming around the city.
