TRO to block water rate hike

The provincial and city governments will separately petition for the issuance of a temporary restraining order at the Regional Trial Court (RTC) on the imposition of a 40.79% water rate increase of Bohol Water Utilities Inc. (BWUI).

Capitol and City Hall officials will take the legal remedies against the increase of water rates, which was approved by the National Water Resource Board (NWRB).

LOBOC CRUISE. In order to iron out kinks for the operation of the P14 million new Loboc Cruise docking port/terminal, the Provincial Tourism Council chaired by Peter Dejaresco and BM Corazon Galbreath met boat operators, tour operators together with Loboc Mayor Leon Calipusan at the Loboc Tourism Complex last Monday. Rep. Eladio Jala joined the meeting to assure that the bailey bridge reinforcement work will be fast tracked in time for the visit of guests from the ASEAN Summit in Cebu City on Dec 10-14.

Abu Sayyaf in American's
beheading in 2001 nabbed

ZAMBOANGA CITY. Military intelligence agents have arrested the Abu Sayyaf leader who allegedly decapitated American hostage Guillermo Sobero in June 2001, the military said yesterday.

Major Eugene Batara, spokesperson of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said Annik Abbas alias Abu Anek was arrested on Friday evening in Colonia village in Lamitan, Basilan.

Abbas's victim, Sobero, was among 21 persons - including American couple Martin and Gracia Burnham - taken from the Dos Palmas resort in Palawan during a raid by the group of bandits in May 2001.

Slow to anger may be biblical but even Christ would condone righteous indignation for unfair practices against consumers.

Betcha by golly, that's the reason why there are special smoking lounges and in public buildings and malls are No-Smoking zones. The right of Marlboro and Philip Morris to rake money and the right to relax by puffing cigarettes with nicotine ends when the right of your neighbor to defend himself from lung cancer and asthma begins.
