HOW PEOPLE CIRCUMVENT LAWS ON WOMEN AND CHILDREN

The Juvenile Justice Act of 2006, otherwise known as Republic Act 9344, is one law we vehemently register our opposition because it exempts those 15 years old and below from criminal liability.

A gangster can simply hire children aged 15 years and below to carry out criminal activities and these kids could go scot-free. They rob, steal and do anything criminal and presto, they are free from criminal prosecution.

This is one law that the proponents and lobby groups are simply over-acting without anticipating how the gang world reacts.

Which brings us to Republic Act 9262, the law on violence against women and children.
Part of the temporary relief given to a battered housewife is to seek the issuance for a temporary prevention order (TPO) from the barangay or from the court as the case maybe preventing the husband from getting near his wife within a specified radius.

A lot of situations occur when the wife left the family house and stayed with her parents. In the meantime, the womanizing husband brings his paramour to their house.

What a stupid situation brought about by this law.

In Cogon district this city, because of Republic Act 7610 otherwise known as the Child Abuse Law, a family is now specializing in having the children go inside residences with open gates.

According to ABC Pres. Betty Torralba, the children will court the ire of the household until it reaches the point that occupants in the house will orally or even physically harm them just to get rid of them from the house. Then the kids will seek the assistance of their parents who will threaten the house occupants of a child abuse case if they do not settle by paying the kids' parents considerable amount.

See how people use these laws on the supposed protection of children and women?

This year's annual walk for a cause will be held on Sunday which is also the Family Day for city hall.

City Councilor Edi Borja, freedom fighter in the 9th Sangguniang Panlungsod, is sitting in the executive committee for this year's Alay Lakad.

We are expecting the Alay Lakad committee to issue elsewhere in this issue the details of the early morning walk this Sunday.

This afternoon, Simply Aging, Inc. led by the irrepressible Empeng Gulle will kick off their first sports festival at the K of C Bowling Alley this city dubbed as the Cong. Edgar Chatto Cup. The first district solon is an honorary member of this group.

Games to be played include bowling, billiards, dart and pingpong in order to emasculate the deteriorating muscles of its members.

Simply Aging members are expected to assemble at 5 o'clock this afternoon for the start of the sports festival which will be held every Sundays thereafter until December this year.
