DENR checks beach resorts
 

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) vowed to check beach resorts with no environmental clearances, the same reason for which the agency closed last Tuesday Dumaluan Beach Resort, owned by Panglao Mayor Doloreich Dumaluan.

Arroyo's retake order
stays - Dante Ang

Dante Ang, chairman of the Commission on Filipinos Overseas, said Saturday that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's decision to require a retake of the leakage-affected portions of the June 2006 nursing licensure examination stays and would prevail despite a pending case in the Court of Appeals.

 442 nursing deans fight Malacañang over board retake

Deans of the country's 442 nur-sing colleges have taken a stubborn stand against the pronouncement of Malacañang favoring the nursing board examinations retake.

Bohol president of the Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) Fran-cisca Baluyot said the strong opposition mounted by the deans alone should cause Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to reconsider the Palace's decision.

Mark Bautista in Lila concert

Pop heartthrob Mark Bautista will be in Lila town on Friday for a concert, one of the highlights of the town's annual fiesta celebration in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary.

The concert starts at 8 p.m. Special guests are Canadian Idol 2003 finalist and Lila's pride Annabelle Lumayag; and Viva's promising Cebuana srtist Raffi Quijano.

Many people ignore the fact that to violate the sanctity of the environment is to court human disaster.

For instance, only few people realize that the 1991 flashfloods in Ormoc, primarily aggravated by forest denudation and reckless waste disposal killed 5,000 Filipinos - far large than the 3,000 killed in New York due to 9/11 Event and the 2,300 American servicemen slaughtered in the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Bb. Pilipinas-World Anna Maris Igpit made it to the semi-finals in the Miss World Beachwear category of the 2006 Miss World beauty contest in Warsaw, Poland. The 19-year old beauty from Panglao town represented the country in last night's pageant that culminated in a grand coronation. The Miss World crown has been very elusive for Asians in the past years.
