GMA to inaugurate projects next week

ARROYO

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has confirmed her April 27 Bohol visit to inaugurate at least three huge infrastructure projects.

Gov. Erico Aumentado had invited her to inaugurate the Bayongan Dam in San Miguel town of the Bohol Irrigation Project Stage 2 (BHIP 2), the Bohol Circumferential Road Improvement Project Phase 2 (BCRIP 2), and the P60-million Jagna Roll-on, Roll-off Port.

Secretary Marilou Frostrom of the Presidential Management Staff's Office for regional concerns (PMS-ORC) last week inspected the dam, BCRIP 2 as well as the Jagna port.

Constructed with corporate funds of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), the over P60-million facility in Jagna that is Bohol's gateway to Mindanao will give Boholanos and visitors alike the comfort and ease of travel brought about by upgraded and modern facilities.

Since BCRIP 2 is divided into two contract packages, Aumentado the other night called Frostrom asking to squeeze in the unveiling of the BCRIP 2 marker at Kilometer Zero.

The marker is in Plaza Rizal, specifically across the St. Joseph's Cathedral, which stretch belongs to Package 1 of the project undertaken by Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Co. It covers the section from Valencia to Calape towns through Tagbilaran City.

On the other hand C. M. Pancho Construction undertook Package 2 from Valencia to Candijay town.

He also asked Frostrom to include the P7-million Tagbilaran Welcome Center - a tourist assistance center at the country's lone tourism port.

While the major activities will be at Bayongan Dam where project managers Engr. Modesto Membreve of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and Yung Qu Park of Hanjin-BHIP committed to gather some 4,000 to 5,000 farmer-beneficiaries and residents, unveiling the marker in Tagbilaran City will make the inaugural activities "complete."

Initial communications with PMS indicate that the President will take a chopper, land in Bayongan direct from Cebu, have lunch in Bayongan and proceed to Jagna, drive through some 1.5 kilometers of BCRIP 2 from the Jagna port eastward going to the next town of Duero and back to the Jagna gymnasium for the program.

With Aumentado's request, she may take her chopper to Tagbilaran, or else ride with the governor by land to Tagbilaran before flying back to Cebu and back to Manila by plane.

The multi-billion-peso BCRIP 2 is 136 kms. long. It involved the construction of Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP), repair of existing PCCP, construction of new and repair of existing bridges, construction of reinforced concrete box culverts (RCBC), reinforced concrete pipe culverts (RCPC), slope and shore protection and other drainage structures.

On the other hand, BHIP 2 will irrigate more ricelands in more Bohol towns in the effort to make the province self sufficient in the staple.
