The
much-awaited Panglao Bohol International Airport
has now set April 2010 as its target date for
completion after the Manila International Airport
Authority (MIAA) assured the availability of P3
billion for the construction of the modern airport.
MIAA
General Manager Art Cusi arrived here Friday with
the entire board of MIAA to assure the Boholanos
that this is "no longer a dream, but a reality
soon to commence with the fast tracking of the
lot acquisition which totals to 195 hectares,
including the expanded 2.5 km. runway.

Marines, 30 Abus
killed in Basilan clash
BASILAN.
Fifteen Marines and an estimated 30 Abu Sayyaf
bandits were killed, while nine other government
troopers were wounded in a fierce encounter in
the southern island province of Basilan yesterday.
Among
those killed were Abu Sayyaf member Umair Indama,
one of four bandits implicated by a joint fact-finding
team of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and
the government in the beheading of Marine troops
in Al-Barkah town last July 10, Lieutenant Colonel
Bartolome Bacarro said.

Albur
mayor softens stand vs. landfill

Having
adopted a strong opposing stance against the cluster
sanitary landfill project may have earned him the mayoralty
of Albur town but Mayor Jose Ugdoracion made a twist
on his stand as he vowed to adopt an "open-minded"
policy regarding the project.
Extensive
talks with the sanitary landfill proponents in the past
weeks allowed Ugdoracion to recognize the need for an
environmentally safe garbage disposal system.

Boholano
tops young scientists
Czarina
A. Saloma-Akpedonu, PhD was named 2007 Outstanding Young
Scientist (OYS) in the field of Sociology by the National
Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) during awarding
ceremonies held recently at the Manila Hotel.
According
to NAST, Saloma-Akpedonu received the award for her
work which "can be considered as a marriage between
technology and social science. Its impact lies on the
way one views technology and its relation to culture
and people's identity."
