Three-term
Taloto barangay captain Faro Cabalit handily sealed his
victory in yesterday's election for the presidency of
the city's Association of Barangay Captains (ABC) held
at the Metrocenter Hotel.
Mustering the votes of all barangay captains allied with
City Mayor Dan Lim,the new ABC |
president
garnered 10 votes against his opponent three-term Poblacion-2
barangay chair Glorivic Yap Dela Serna who obtained 5 votes.
Cabalit,
who came off a failed third bid for the Sangguniang Panlungsod
(SP) during last May's polls, expressed excitement of serving
once again at the SP as one of its ex officio members.
This
will be his second time to be elected as president of the
ABC (Liga ng mga Barangay).

Dela
Serna, who temporarily served as interim ABC president
since November 30 due to the conclusion of former Cogon
barangay chair and ABC head Alberta Torralba, said she
expected the way how her fellow barangay captains voted.
Although
Dela Serna admitted that the election was non partisan,
it was already clear early on that two groups were formed,
one pushing for Cabalit's bid and the others who were
supporting her.
Cabalit,
a close ally of the mayor, bared after the election
that some members of his group were approached the night
before the election.

He
claimed some barangay captains were offered cash and projects
from a certain congressman.
The
new ABC head said that he was even surprised nobody among
his allies bolted to Dela Serna's group.
For
her part, Dela Serna objected to allegations that she raided
Cabalit's camp before the election.
She
said her candidacy was relying on "sympathy votes"
from her colleagues.
Elected
as ABC vice president was Mansasa barangay captain Manolo
Blanco while Cogon barangay captain Philipp Besas was elected
as the league's auditor.
PROV'L
BATTLE UP NEXT
Meanwhile,
the battle for the provincial ABC is seen to be a match up
between a veteran politician and lawmaker and the incumbent
provincial head of the barangay captains' league.
Incumbent
provincial Liga ng mga Barangay president Romulo Cepedoza
was reelected in his hometown Danao.
Meanwhile,
former board member Concepcion Lim was also elected as ABC
president of Valencia town.
