Bohol Wisdom School (BWS) prepares as it will represent region 7 to the Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad sometime in February nest year to be held in one of the major universities in Manila.

This after BWS sophomore student Kenneth Bolo drew an impressive third place win in the 2007 Regional Chemistry Blitz sponsored by the University of San Carlos Chemistry Department held last Dec. 1 in Talamban, Cebu City.

Kenneth, only 14 years old, was the youngest delegate of the 19 semi-finalists from allover Region 7.

Kenneth was welcomed as a walk-in contestant to the Bohol Provincial Eliminations held last November 24 at the Bohol Wisdom School Multi-media Center.

Despite not having formal Chemistry instruction as he is only in his second year in high school, Kenneth landed as part of the top 5 in the provincials along with others from BWS, BIT, and DCPNHS. He, together with fellow qualifiers Ma. Christine Atup and Clyde Bullecer, then underwent a week-long training under teacher-coach and BWS Science Coordinator Mrs. Josefina Narit.

The regional hunt involved two parts - a three round laboratory practicum test and a quiz bowl round. Only the ten best during the practical trials - including Bullecer and Bolo - proceeded to the final quiz in the afternoon. Kenneth although getting only few points during the first two easy phases of the contest, wowed the audience during the difficult round as he only placed two mistakes. Bullecer garnered fifth while Bolo landed third.

A BWSian in the person of Elirozz Labaria participated as semi-finalist and won Bronze in the Laboratory Practicums in last year's nationals held at the Ateneo de Manila University and University of the Philippines.

Kenneth along with the first two placers will now undergo rigid lecture and laboratory trainings at the University of San Carlos (Center of Excellence in Chemistry in the Philippines), under the tutelage of the finest chemistry professors in the region.
