MANILA
-- Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin Abalos
has urged the senatorial candidates to file their certificates
for drug testing or face disqualification.
In
a press conference Tuesday, Abalos said he was giving candidates
until March 29 to attach the document to the certificates
of candidacy (CoC) that they have filed at the Comelec.
Asked
about non-compliance, Abalos insisted that the Comelec had
to implement the law but did not say what penalties would
be imposed on violators.
"The
law states that candidates should attach [a] certificate of
drug testing. Let's give them until March 29 or we can consider
that you [the candidates] have not filed your CoC. Let the
candidates contest this because until a law is amended or
repealed, we will enforce the law," Abalos said, referring
to the Dangerous Drugs Act.
Abalos
said the reason why he had not published the full list of
senatorial candidates was because he was waiting for them
to attach their certificates for drug testing.
