2 Boholanos bid for Senate
 

Two Boholanos are among the 38 senatorial bets jockeying for the 12 posts in the Senate during the May 14 elections.

  Sonia Malasarte Roco, wife of late Senator Raul Roco is running under the Genuine Opposition (GO) while international award winning movie actor/director Cesar Montano was picked to replace Leyte Gov. Jericho Petilla under the administration's Team Unity.

Roco is the daughter of the late Boholano Congressman Pablo and Petra Malasarte from Bilar and Calape towns, respectively.

Gov't to appeal US nurse ban

The government will appeal the decision of a US commission to ban some 17,000 Filipino nurses who passed the cheating-tainted 2006 nursing licensure examination from working in the United States.

The US Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (CGFNS) issued the temporary ban this week, insisting that Filipino nurses retake the sections of the June 2006 examination that were tainted by cheating.

  Army commander warns politicians from giving to "rebel" extortionists

Politicians are warned by 302nd Infantry Brigade commander Col. Jesse Dellosa to refrain from giving in to extortion activities of communist rebels during the campaign period for the coming May polls.

During the weekly radio program of Gov. Erico Aumentado, "The Governor Reports," Dellosa said giving money to the New People's Army (NPA) will only render the already thinned-out insurgents a chance to regroup and recruit.

Surgical mission starts tomorrow

Aumentado - National President, League of Provinces of the Philippines and Union of Local Authorities in the Philippines in his health program for indigent Boholanos, a surgical mission will start today Feb 19-23, through the courtesy of the Association of Filipino Physicians of Southern Illinois and some Filipino and Foreign physicians in California, Arizona, Virginia, Washington DC, Florida headed by Dr. Renato Rivera, Dr. Juanito Aya-ay, Dr. Tony Daquipa, and the University of Santo Tomas Medical Class 1964.
