Robbery suspect arrested

A prime suspect linked to several robberies in the province, as well as in Cebu City, was cornered by police operatives at a checkpoint along the national highway in Talibon last Thursday noon.

PNP Prov'l Director Edgardo Ingking identified the suspect as Joseph Moraga y Nuez, 26, jobless of Barangay San Isidro, San Miguel town.

Ingking said that the suspect was positively identified by an eyewitness of the broad daylight robbery at Unitop last December 28, wherein more than P500,000 was carted away by Moraga's group.

Melo recommendations

MANILA.- Malacañang assured Saturday that it will follow the recommendations of the Melo Commission on extrajudicial killings.

In a statement, Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye noted that special courts to try political and media killings are already being established.

  High School principal
faces "child abuse" raps

Some 16 students of Badiang National High School in Anda town filed a child abuse complaint last Friday at the provincial prosecutor's office against their school principal after they received corporal punishment for being late in coming to school.

Parents of the schoolchildren, mostly aged from 13 to 16 years old, came to the Chronicle offices last Tuesday to report the abuse of school principal Erlindo Fontanoza which was caught on video by one of the students.

He tore his working class blue jeans and pedestrian tee shirt - and walked into the Philippine Tourism Authority Camshell II in Intramuros (Manila) Friday night - dressed in dark Nehru suit and a million-dollar smile.

The man is actor-director Cesar "Buboy" Montano, 45 years of age and native of Baclayon, and he is running for the Philippine senate.
