Candidates
for the midterm May 14 elections can start filing their certificates of candidacy
tomorrow with the various offices of the Commission on Elections.
Meanwhile,
the election gun ban starts today, imposing stiffer penalties for those found
bringing firearms in public. The gun ban will be until June 13.
Provincial
Comelec Supervisor Veronico Petalcorin told the Chronicle that municipal election
registrars in Bohol's 47 towns are already equipped with the needed forms for
those running for local elective positions, for mayor and councilors.
Candidates
for governor, vice governor, provincial kagawads and congressmen can file with
the provincial Comelec offices in the city.
Local
bets have until March 29 to file their certificates of candidacy while senatorial
bets have only until Feb. 12 only.
| | | The
election gun ban which starts today automatically cancels the permits of gun holders
to carry their firearms including those holders of mission orders.
"Only
those given special permits by the Comelec to carry firearms will be allowed,"
according to outgoing PNP Prov'l Director Arturo Evangelista, in a separate interview.
Those
men in uniform who carry firearms should have special permits to show that they
are being deputized by the Comelec. |
Meanwhile,
the election ban will also set to effect on public works projects starting March
30 to May 14. This includes the prohibition of hiring, appointing or even firing
of government officials and employees.
Urgent
government projects which are beating important deadlines should apply for exemptions
in order not to violate the election ban. |
