STARTING WITH A BIG BANG

In history, the Big Bang theory is the exact opposite to the Creation in the Genesis.

The advocates of this theory were even classified by the Church as heretics for they tried to present a revolutionary concept on how did Earth came into existence.

Well, we cannot amplify on this theory here due to space limitation but what only brought us there is that the terminology is now being used with something remarkable or exceptional.

And what the 9th Sangguniang Panlungsod led by Vice-Mayor Nuevas Tirol-Montes did last Wednesday was to open its first regular session with 2007 with, what else but a big bang.

For one, the proposed P.35 billion budget for the city government passed the legislative wringer pursuant to the approval of Proposed Ordinance No. 27-06 via a unanimous vote by the city lawmakers. We sponsored the measure during the plenary.

We thought that Proposed Ordinance No. 11-06 sponsored by City Councilor Urbano H. Lagunay would not be approved last Wednesday. It turned out that the legislation was approved smoothly.

The ordinance adopted the road network scheme at the New Growth Center of the city.

Then came another milestone legislation through Proposed Ordinance No. 25-06 sponsored by Majority Floorleader Jose Antonio S. Veloso. The ordinance revised the Code of Administrative Ordinances of the City of Tagbilaran. It was also unanimously approved.

For the record, the three proposed ordinances were approved by the city councilors in succession.

Finally, without further ado, the appointment of Dr. Antonio M. Porticos as the new city health officer was confirmed by the city sanggunian through a proposed resolution sponsored by City Councilor Edi Borja.

We met Rich Asuncion a.ka. Rich Angalot of Bool district last Friday together with the GMA 7 TV crew to campaign for more text votes with her inclusion into the finalists of the network's "Starstruck."

She stopped schooling at Holy Name University to pursue her dreams in show business and we could only pray for her success. We also hope that whatever her successes in the field she has chosen will not get into her head just like some of our city residents who tasted a short-lived life of fame and fortune.

So, let help Rich realize her dreams by sending our text votes.
