Dumaluan suspended

Panglao Mayor Doloreich Dumaluan was meted a 6-month suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman last Monday.

However, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) have not yet received the order, as of presstime.

The mayor's name surfaced recently as one of the local officials with decided cases at the Ombudsman while the

DILG started implementing dismissals and suspensions against two provincial governors and town mayors since last week.

BRACING FOR THE MAY POLLS
 

Filipinos take their elections seriously compared to other countries where citizens just go through their usual routine and ignore their right to suffrage. In fact, an 80% voter turnout in the Philippines is not unusual.

In truth, it would have been "political suicide" to have the May Polls deferred because people who have been simmering in a political cauldron for far too long need to vent their anger or satisfaction on governance or the lack of it.

Comelec OKs Internet
voting in Singapore

The Commission on Elections has approved a proposal for Internet voting for the Filipino community in Singapore, reports bared yesterday.

Commissioner Florentino Tuason, chairman of Comelec's Committee on Overseas Absentee Voting, said the committee picked Singapore as the pilot country for Internet voting because there are 26,000 registered overseas Filipino voters there.
