Dengue strikes again,
4 deaths in Jan-June

Dengue, caused by bites of aedis egypti mosquito, surged anew resulting to four deaths during the first six-month (January to June) period, according to provincial health authorities.

Provincial Health Office said that it documented some 272 cases of dengue including 4 deaths. But it was no certain if there were cases not being reported by rural health centers in the municipalities.

Tagbilaran City topped the list of these cases. Other municipalities also experienced dengue upsurge.

Among the towns with high number of cases, PHO said, Dauis had 20 cases; Jagna 14; Ubay 8; and Panglao 7 cases of this deadly disease.

Even before the month ended, June had the highest with 66 cases; May, 52; January, 40; March 43; April 37; and February, 24, PHO said.

At the onset of the rainy days, mosquito-borne disease is expected to surge when residents failed to clean up their surroundings and water containers, probable breeding places of the dengue-causing mosquitoes.

Health authorities urged residents to do the "4 o'clock habit" to get rid of these mosquitoes. (RVO)
