THE BEST IS YET TO COME

According to Tagbilaran City website, "Governor-General Gaspar dela Torre signed a decree on February 9, 1742 establishing the separate town of San Jose de Tagbilaran from the town of Baclayon. Since then, this once unheralded town has been under the mantle of the Province of Bohol until it became a Chartered City on July 1, 1966 by virtue of Republic Act No. 4660."

Today marks the 41st birthday of Tagbilaran as a city and considering that life begins at 40, Tagbilaran would now be on the way to the prime of its existence. We cannot agree more than the theme bannered in today's celebration that the best is yet to come. In today's issue of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, a one whole page feature is devoted for this theme which coincides with the formal oath-taking ceremonies of the new set of city officials at the fully air-conditioned cultural center this morning.

We already took our oath at the city hall yesterday noon as mandated by law. We shall formally take our oath for the third time as city councilor this morning before Board Member Roygie Jumamoy.

RTC Judge Baudilio K. Dosdos has been our constant administering officer for the last two oath-takings we had in 2001 and in 2004.

For this third time, we chose Board Member Roygie Jumamoy as our administering officer. Incidentally, Inabanga, Jumamoy's home turf, marked its annual fiesta yesterday. So, our belated fiesta greetings to the people of Inabanga led by Mayor Juno Jumamoy.

Of course, many eyebrows raised upon learning that we shall be taking our oath before Board Member Jumamoy this morning. They quickly associate this to our strong bid for the PCL presidency. Well, their guess is as good as mine.

Last Wednesday, the 9th Sangguniang Panlungsod of Tagbilaran held its closing session with outgoing Vice-Mayor Nuevas Tirol-Montes presiding the session.

Several other personalities are bowing out of the city sanggunian aside from the lady vice-mayor. They include last-termer City Councilor Urbano Lagunay, City Councilor George Olario and City Councilor Archie Sarmiento. Atty. Alma Aparece, SP secretary, also tendered her resignation together with Lucille Lagunay, chief of staff of the Vice-Mayor's Office.

But the lady vice-mayor and Olario would still be at the city hall for the next three years. This time, as consultants to the office of the city mayor. We also paid a glowing tribute to the sterling performance of Lagunay as a three-termer city councilor.

Certainly, his last term as a city councilor could perhaps be his best three years at the city hall.

INBOX. From Hermes Quijada: "I wish to thank you for having some of my forwarded e-mails printed in our much-read and Boholanos' pride, the Bohol Chronicle. It's impossible for me to miss reading it every Sunday and Wednesday. After the headlines, I'll go straight to your column. I missed your column during the election period.

For me, it is a wise decision for you to vie for the PCL presidency. Nakapangutana lang ko nganong karon pa, di ba sa una ra unta. Though it is hard to challenge the first gentleman of Loay, but I am positive that you have a good chance of winning. You know the art of winning. I heard that one of my kumpadre, Dodo Jumawid, is joining the race too and many other names floated. As what you said, "the more, the merrier" That's more challenging. Good luck guys! May the best man wins.

Boholano's fame are going global nowadays. Our very own Czar Amonsot is slated to challenge the reigning WBO Lightweight champion Rocky Ketsidis from Australia this coming July 21 in Las Vegas. I hope this white-haired, southpaw Boholano will make it this time unlike what happened to him when he faced Butar-butar in Tagbilaran. He is still young and promising. He must discipline himself in order to avoid that very humiliating 47-second first round knockout to happen again. I remember the time you featured this guy in your column after that fateful September of his undisciplined behavior. This is best chance to regain himself.

This coming August, another famous and more promising Boholano will shine in the field of boxing. The predicted next people's champ, our very own, Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista will be challenging a world championship crown in Sacramento, California. It will be held in ARCO Arena, the home of NBA's Sacramento Kings. It is just a stone-throw away from the house of our good friend, Art Romanos. I heard that another Boholano, AJ Banal, will also slug it out against another Mexican brawler. I hope all of our sanos will win.

I love reading your column about Yoyoy Villame too. It is very good to read when you featured people whether famous or not. How is your billiard buddy, Fred Araneta now?

Sandugo celebration is fast approaching and I can imagine how festive Tagbilaran these days again after the election fever. Thank you and God bless. Hope to hear from you straight from the capitol next time."
