For
the nth time again, we shall be on our annual ritual of not
seeing the Sandugo street dancing today as we anchor its live
coverage over Station DYRD starting at 9 o'clock this morning.
This
time, it would be a different broadcast as we are heard worldwide
through the website www.dyrdam.com as the Sandugo festivities
reaches its climax.
The
street dancing will start at 9:30 a.m. according to Loy Palapos,
Sandugo Foundation executive director. This is the earliest
schedule so far after how many years of street dancing.

As
we cover live the street dancing activity this morning, we
shall also cover the ring battle of our very own Czar Amonsot
as he takes a crack in the world title against WBO interim
lightweight champion Michael Katsidis in Las Vegas, Nevada
this morning as one of the supporting events in the Hopkins-Wright
fight.
Amonsot
spoke to the city mayor yesterday morning and the Tagbilaran
ring fighter appears to be ready for the battle this morning.
This
is the biggest opportunity for Amonsot to make big time in
boxing. And may we say this is the best chance he gets after
that humiliating defeat against a Thai foe right here in the
city last year.

Back
to the Sandugo Festival, it's always heartening to note that
despite the National Historical Institute's resolution declaring
Hinawanan, Loay as the site of the Blood Compact between Datu
Sikatuna and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, it is still Tagbilaran
that holds main Sandugo festivities.
NHI
Chairman Ambeth Ocampo also tried recently to encroach into
the autonomy of local government units by having the old Melrose
Theater declared as a cultural heritage to the extent of altering
the city's stonewall stance of a 17.5 meters set back requirements.
As
long as the Aumentado law declaring Bool District, Tagbilaran
City as the site of the blood compact remains, no amount of
NHI acrobatics can alter the tradition and heraldry of the
Blood Compact.

For
almost 15 years, the Agora stood as a symbol of government
efficiency right in the heart of Tagbilaran. It is not only
an eyesore but it has become the world's largest comfort room.
More
than P40 million has been poured to that infrastructure but
it remained to be a white, not giant, elephant after how many
years.
Now
that the present city dispensation pursued for its completion,
we cannot understand why there appears to be a "blocking
force" along the way.

We
got a copy of Engr. Celestino Adlaon's letter to the city
mayor asking for the suspension of the on-going works at the
Agora as per a long distance call of the OIC Regional Legal
Officer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
For
several years, DPWH did not lift a finger for the completion
of the Agora. Now that the city has decided to pursue its
completion, DPWH came into the picture.
We
do not want to believe that the regional DPWH acted motu proprio
in intervening with the Agora construction. There's more than
meets the eye here.
