Boholano contract workers who have been out of the province to earn a living abroad could be one of the best investors who can propel development here.

This was the point stressed by Gov. Erico Aumentado yesterday when he keynoted the ground breaking ceremonies of the Galilea Center for Education and Development, a pilot project of migrant workers based in Korea which has set its operations to commence November this year.

The governor said that the thrust of the center which is to reintegrate these OFWs to their respective families is a very laudable undertaking as this augurs the fulfillment of a social responsibility in bringing home, uniting these family members after years of physically separated due to their work commitments abroad.

Gov. Aumentado who remains the number one "salesman" of the province said that the pioneering venture of the center which is under the Vision for a Better Tomorrow Multi-Purpose Coop. is worth duplicated by other Boholano groups all over the world.

"This type of project will be hitting two birds with a stone," the governor said as these OFWs investments will help fuel the economic activities of the province and at the same help promote tourism.

As part of his commitment, the governor committed to asphalt the road access to the center from the highway in barangay Looc, Panglao town .

Fr. Eugene Docoy, an SVD priest from Loay town, who works for the migrant apostolate for the past 13 years bared that 63 migrant workers in Korea are behind this project while being supported by Koreans who are convinced on the viability of providing these facilities in the province. The center will become the venue for training, seminars and workshops cum medium end inland resort.

Dr. Agapita Salces, business manager presented the project which includes duplex houses and facilities for conferences and workshops.

Former Board Member Billy Tongco who represented Rep. Edgar Chatto said that the solon is making available his office for support to the project. Chatto is the outgoing chairman of the House committee on tourism.

For his part, Chairman Peter Dejaresco of the Provincial Tourism Council (PTC) expressed optimism that the project is implemented "in the right time and the right place," Bohol being a prime tourist destination. Secondly, it is a welcome note especially that the center is located in Panglao town which is the tourists' haven that needs additional room facilities.

Nimfa Lloren who has been working along this line said this center will become pioneering landmark of such development being funded by migrant workers. She welcomed the project as an eye opener for other migrant groups to adopt.
