REJOINDER ON YOYOY

As promised, we are publishing in full this e-mail from Ruperto (Rupie)Payot of Cortes, Bohol who is now in Vancouver, Canada. Read on.

"Thank you for your article regarding the late Yoyoy. I just want to thank the children of Yoyoy that they decided to bury their father in their hometown, Calape.

I read the write ups about Yoyoy in both issues of the Bohol Chronicle (yours and Bingo's). I shared with them, my fellow Boholanos and other Filipinos here in Canada and they were really amazed of the accomplishments of Yoyoy.

I just want to have some comments and follow up when you mentioned about Yoyoy who refused to accept that he was a Boholano and about the movie "Bol-anon Ko Nyor".

Thank you for telling or explaining that the story was not true. Yes, I heard so many stories from many Boholanos that Yoyoy at the height of his career denied that he was a Boholano. I just can't imagine why people think about that. Even before the release of the movie Bol-anon Ko Nyor", I have been listening to his songs since the first time he released his LP record "Magellan" and he was very proud that he was a Boholano. To recall some of his early songs are the following: Kaming mga Bol-anon, Kinabuhing Bol-anon, Hukilaw(Hawaiian songs mentioning about Calape Bay), Dagohoy (Ang Anak sa Mai-sog nga Bol-anon), Cainget Rock(Rock Around Bohol) and later on Dagohoy and Lapulapu.

Although the movie "Bol-anon Ko Nyor" had clarified the doubts of other people when they said Yoyoy refused to accept that he was a Boholano, but until now it's sad to know that other people especially Boholanos still think that Yoyoy refused to accept that he was a Boholano. Maybe we need more follow-up write up.

In my own opinion, it's possible that he said "he spoked Cebuano dialect being Cebuano as our local dialect. Just like Manny Pacquiao, he said, he is from General Santos but actually he is from Kibawe, Bukidnon. I am from Cortes, but sometimes I will say I am from Tagbilaran especially to the Tagalog's being Tagbilaran is more popular. My present residence is Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, but sometimes I say, I am from Vancouver, Canada being Vancouver is a very popular place and the third largest city in Canada and get way to the orient. Vancouver International Airport is very popular, but actually located in Richmond, one of the city's here in British Columbia.

Going back to the movie, Bol-anon Ko Nior, I have seen that movie too while I was still studying in Cebu, I did not see Yoyoy washing in the toilet bowl. It was edited and ended up Yoyoy became a savior of a crime in Davao.

In my personal opinion and other opinions of some Boholanos at that time, it was really the writer, also a Boholano by the last name of Apoyon should have been blamed for that and not Yoyoy.

Thank you very much for your kind attention to this letter and May God bless you and your loved ones.

P.S. Hopefully, all these writings about Yoyoy will clear people's mind from any doubts and negative thoughts about him and may he rest in peace. Here in Vancouver, there's a local Filipino newspaper, "Phil-Asia Chronicle." The owner- publisher is a close friend of mine and they wanted me to write about Yoyoy. Can I use the information about Yoyoy from your write up?. Of course both of your names will be used as a reference or as writers."
