442nd Sandugo
commemoration set

The historic treaty of friendship is set to be relived anew as the Bohol Sandugo Foundation, Inc. primes for its commemorative activities on March 16.

The whole-day affair will kick-off at 6:30 am with a Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Blood Compact Shrine in Bool. Top officials headed by Governor Erico B. Aumentado and Mayor Dan Neri Lim are among the expected personalities.

Theatrical re-enactment of the Sandugo between Spanish Conquistador Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and native Datu Sikatuna, sealed in the shores of Bohol some 442 years back, will also be presented by select students from the Tagbilaran City Science High School. Managing the production is Dr. Elpidio M. Jala and Mr. Joseph Barrete of the City DepEd with choreographer Mr. Butch Bernas.

An open-to-all Fun Run from the Bool Shrine to the New City Hall Building follows at 7:00 am. This is yet another initiative aimed at encouraging wider involvement from the populace in the celebration while promoting a healthy lifestyle.

At 9:00 am, the Programme Proper starts at the New City Hall Building. Invited authorities in history will deliver plenary discussion before teachers and students from city elementary and secondary schools.

In the afternoon, array of local talents from the recently-concluded Arts Month Celebration takes center stage. Facilitated by Mrs. Enriqueta Butalid, the Center for Culture and the Arts Development-sponsored contests' champions in Kundiman, Dance Drama, and Bangga sa Banda will redo their winning pieces.

PAINTING CONTEST

Added feature to the activity is the conduct of the On-the-Spot Painting Contest designed to harness the talent of budding painters. Every secondary school is allowed to send in three (3) representatives at maximum. Entries from elementary schools are also accepted. Contest obras, which must depict the Blood Compact, will be judged based on the Criteria : 30% Originality, 25% Creativity, 25% Color Harmony and 20% Presentation.

Registration of contestants ends on March 15. For inquiries, interested parties may contact Mr. Rocky Jimenez at the City Mayor's Office thru tel. nos. 411-3720, 235-5567, & 501-9350. (Sandugo Secretariat-David S. Maulas)
