Montano running for governor?

MONTANO

Movie actor/director Cesar Montano, one of the Team Unity's senatoriables is reportedly planning to slide down as a gubernatorial bet in the province to run against incumbent Gov. Erico Aumentado.

Montano is a registered voter of Baclayon town, his hometown.

This report surfaced after Montano was not visible in all the activities of the Team Unity during the two-day visit here of the administration's senatorial bets last weekend.

Reports reaching the Chronicle said Montano's "disappearing act" during the Bohol sortie was in reaction to some commitments of the party which were not fulfilled as agreed when he joined the Team Unity.

The matters involved some monetary arrangements as to the campaign funds intended for a senatorial bet who was "picked up and asked to run for senator" by no less than Pres. Gloria Arroyo.

Montano while on a shooting was called by Malacañang to be offered the senatorial slot under the Team Unity. His decision to join the team came so quick that even his wife, Sunshine Cruz was surprised.

With this reported unresolved internal issue between him and the party, Montano has declined to issue any statement for the moment. He even do not accept interviews for the meantime that "matters have yet to be resolved."

There were reports of an attempt to open negotiations with the camp of former Pres. Erap Estrada. However, this did not materialize until yesterday.

If ever Erap called Montano, it was just a gesture of offering a help to a neophyte in politics, a highly placed source told the Chronicle yesterday.

Asked to comment on this, a kin of Montano told the Chronicle during a long distance interview yesterday that the movie actor will remain with Team Unity believing on the principle that he should support and be a part of the administration.

"It seems remote for Montano to entertain joining the cause of the opposition," the same source told the Chronicle yesterday.

But, Montano and Gov. Aumentado were seen at the Governor's Mansion last Sunday where the said internal issues were being threshed out. However, observers believe that the issue was not resolved as the talks on Montano sliding down to a gubernatorial bid did not die down even after his meeting with the governor last Sunday.

In fact, Montano has not issued yet any denial on this possibility.

He is slated to issue a public pronouncement on the matter anytime this week.
