An
11-year old grade school student barely escaped his would-be
kidnappers after a fish vendor foiled them in barangay Poblacion
Albur town last Monday.
The
boy, a grade 4 elementary student at the Albur Central Elementary
School was on his way home around 11 o'clock in the morning
when a black van parked near his path.
In
their investigation, the boy told Albur PNP that after the
van stopped one of the passengers called on him.
However,
when he was close to the one who beckoned for him to get near,
the latter reportedly grabbed his arm forcing him to board
the van.

A
fish vendor (name withheld) who saw the scuffle shouted
for help which distracted the would-be kidnappers and
gave the boy a chance to run away.
The
black van also took off immediately in the direction
of Loay town when the boy escaped.
The
grade school student was not able to provide the police
with further description of the would-be kidnappers
and the plate number of the van.

The
incident happened just in front of the barangay health center
of East Poblacion and a few meters from the elementary school.
Police
said they suspect that the kidnappers may have been a part
of a syndicate abducting kids and selling them in Manila as
organ transplant donors.
Kidnapping
incidents have been on the rise in other provinces allegedly
because of this organ-for-transplant trade.
In
an interview with the Chronicle, Albur PNP chief P/Insp. Romeo
Cano explained that the motive could not be kidnap-for-ransom
as the grade school student does not come from an affluent
family.
Since
Monday, police in the neighboring towns of Baclayon and Loay
have been conducting checkpoints and follow-up investigations
in search for vital information in connection with the attempted
kidnapping.
It
may be recalled that two female high school students in the
city disappeared some two weeks ago.
Police
and city officials are still investigating on the whereabouts
of the two girls who were last seen on March 3 after attending
review classes at the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School
(DCPNHS) where both are second year students.
