Loboc scores
in Miss BAMMI

By DOVIC TIROL AND RESTY MAGLALANG

Loboc won its own grand slam in the Miss BAMMI (Bohol Association of Metro Manila, Inc.) contest on Feb. 23.

The reigning Miss Loboc, Jennica Salabsab, bested 15 other muses and annexed the Miss BAMMI 2007 crown at the PTA Clamshell 2, along General Luna St. in Intramuros, Manila. Miss BAMMI received her crown, scepter, cape and sash from Congressman Edgar M. Chatto (First District, Bohol), Bb. Pilipinas-World Anna Maris Igpit and businessman Angelo Balili.

Miss Sikatuna, Patrixia Pearl Manlangit, daughter of Engr. Pat Manlangit and Dr. Sonia Manlangit landed as First Runner-up. She was crowned by actor-director turned senatorial candidate Cesar Montano, with wife Sunshine Cruz, Vice Admiral Rogelio Calunsag and Mrs. Teresita Reyes, wife of DENR Secretary Angelo Reyes.

Second Runner-up for Miss BAMMI was Miss Ubay, Mhelanee Oliva Bulabos, who accepted her award from Mrs. Rebecca Rañola, Mr. Loy Palapos and Mrs. Fely Ramos.

Third Runner-up, Miss Ma. Aysa Asombrado of Tubigon was awarded by Mrs. Sol Alturas Yu, Commissioner Tommy Toledo, while Fourth Runner-up, Miss Haydee Rose Castrodes of Tagbilaran City, was proclaimed by Mr. Bingo Dejaresco of The Bohol Chronicle and Director Prudenciana Cruz of the National Library.

Chosen as Miss Photogenic was Miss Mabini's Miss Lou Wella Mae Bernasor, who received her prize from Atty. Luna Piezas and Dr. Rosemarie Soria. Voted Miss Congeniality by her fellow candidates, Sikatuna's Miss Manlangit received her award from Asst. Solicitor General Raul Mandin.

Ubay's bet, Miss Bulabos, won a second award, this time as Best in Gown, receiving her prize from Rear Admiral Margarito Sanchez. Second best in evening gown was Panglao's Miss Edelweiss Lynn Estomo, while third was Mabini's Miss Bernasor.

The three Best in Gown winners also shared top Miss Talent honors among themselves, although in a different order.

Earlier, on Saturday, January 27 during the final Miss BAMMI canvassing at the Pasay City Sports Complex, the candidates had already squared off for the title of Miss Talent. Proclaimed Miss Talent, her third award for the evening, was Ubay's Miss Bulabos, for her heartrending version of "Narito Ako." She received her prize from celebrity performers Luke Mejares, Giselle Sanchez and Yoyoy Villame. Runner-up for the Miss Talent competition was Mabini's Miss Bernasor, while third place was bagged by Panglao's Miss Estomo. All three winners reprised their performances.

Miss BAMMI coronation night, which completed the four-month quest, was attended by luminaries of the Boholano community, who were also present to honor the Outstanding Boholanos in Metro Manila, launch the maiden issue of BAMMI Trajectory magazine and review the gains of the project, Preserve President CPG's Heritage: Save the Museum.

Main hosts for the colorful Miss BAMMI pageant were Neil Saletrero and Atty. Jessica Tirol, while the Miss BAMMI segment had Jun-jun Lafuente as production manager and director. Director for the evening's entire proceedings was Joseph A. Rañola, BAMMI's project director.

Performers that serenaded the Boholana beauties were led by Star in a Million champion Jerome Sala and veterans Dhel Horest, Luz Loreto, Emil Loseñada, and Rebecca Olaso with musical director Tex Cimafranca. The Philippine National Police Combo was on hand to provide dance music and fanfare, while the Marching Band of Sto. Niño, Muntinlupa, featured brass band in Mall of Asia and other SM branches, gave a special flavor to the procession of candidates.

All 16 candidates who joined the Search for Miss BAMMI 2007, a popularity contest, raised a total of P2 Million. Rañola stressed that the proceeds of the fund-raiser would be used to complete the ongoing tourism-oriented project of the association, which is to launch a comprehensive travel and investment book about the province of Bohol.

Miss BAMMI and her court have been designated to serve as Ambassadresses of Goodwill for the organization during Sandugo 2007 in Tagbilaran City.
