P215M for Bohol projects

Bohol Gov. Erico Aumentado poured P251.72 million in local funds for different infrastructure projects across the province now already bid out, ongoing or ready for inauguration.

The projects and their respective amounts are broken down into concreting, asphalting and regravelling of major provincial roads, P111.273 million; maintenance of primary, secondary and tertiary roads, with road signs and load limit signs, P29.2 million; regravelling, etc. from Bohol's share of the Motor Vehicles Users Charge (MVUC), P9.12 million; soil stabilization, P9.42 million; President's Bridge Program, P28.6 million; provincial public building projects, P59.11 million and other projects, P4.98 million.

With these provincial funds released - the biggest appropriation in the history of the provincial government, Aumentado appealed to the mayors and other local government officials and civil society as well to monitor the projects in their respective areas of responsibility to ensure transparency and accountability.

Of the total, around 95 percent is from the provincial coffers; the remaining five percent comes from counterpart funds like those from President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Education Secretary Jesli Lapus, among others.

"As such, I thank the Sangguniang Panlalawigan headed by Vice Gov. Julius Caesar Herrera - my partner in progress - for the appropriation," the governor said.

ROADS

In allocating funds for the roads, Aumentado had them classified into primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary roads are inter-town roads, those with heavy vehicle traffic and those leading to tourism destinations. Secondary roads have lesser volume of traffic while tertiary roads are those maintained by the barangays through contracts with the province.

Under road improvement, concreting took up the bulk of the amount at P79.173 million, followed by asphalting at P10.9 million and construction or regravelling, P9.2 million or a total of P99.273 million.
