Sufficient budget for city roads, water
By KIT BAGAIPIO

City residents complaining of bad road condition and inefficient water services were assured by City Mayor Dan Lim as the city government embarks on a P24-million rehabilitation of city streets and the waterworks system months before the May elections.

During his weekly radio program, "Mayor's Report" over dyRD yesterday, the mayor enumerated the repairs to be undertaken for the city waterworks which are considered an "urgent need".

Lim issued marching orders for waterworks supervisor Engr. Wellington Pilongo to finish the project as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on engineering and public works chaired by Kag. Oscar Glovasa adopted proposed ordinance 04-07 approving a supplemental budget for the concreting and asphalting of various city streets, revamp of pipelines of the city waterworks, installation and construction of traffic and light posts and purchase of a lot for a much-needed access road.

The supplemental budget was approved by Mayor Lim as he promised to undertake road concreting projects in identified priority busy streets.

Of the total infrastructure fund allocation, P8,041,000 is allotted for the cementing of Gallares Street, P4-million for the Booy-Taloto Road and P2,507,000 for the road going to the Capitol Site starting from the CPG Avenue intersection fronting the Bohol Wisdom School.

The road concreting project is allotted a total P14,548,000.

On the other hand, road maintenance will also be undertaken by asphalt overlay in J.S. Torralba Street, Marapao Street, G. Visarra Street and the road going to the City Central Market and Integrated Bus Terminal which costs a total of P3.8-million.

Electrical installation and construction of traffic light posts along CPG Avenue and CPG to M.H. del Pilar Streets is also underway with a total allocation of P735,000.

WATERWORKS REVAMP

The mayor presented during his radio program yesterday the prioritized steps to improve the performance of the city waterworks system and meet the increasing water demand in the rural barangays.

Replacement and upgrading of old and inadequate distribution pipelines in problem service areas in barangays Ubujan, Manga and Taloto will be undertaken.

Current pipes serving these problem areas have 1-inch pipes, thus, the inadequate flow of water. These old pipes will be replaced with 4-inch pipes.

According to Pilongo, the Ubujan-Taloto road along the coastal area, with a total distance of 2-kilometers, will be prioritized while other distribution pipelines in Ubujan, Taloto and Manga will also be replaced with 2-inch pipes.

Aside from the improvement of pipelines, pumping units will also be upgraded. Pressure-release-valves will be installed at designated lowest and highest points to release trapped air within undulating pipelines in order to provide continuity of water flow to concessionaires.

Chlorinator machines will be set-up in all pumping units to ensure 100% potability, Pilongo bared.

The waterworks revamp is initially allotted P4-million which is part of the supplemental budget.

RE-OPENING OF ACCESS ROAD

An access road from the Capitol Site going to the Central Market in barangay Dao will also be re-opened.

The road was closed down since part of which is owned privately.

The said lot will be purchased by the city government and is funded P1-million in the supplemental budget for its acquisition.
