City
residents complaining of bad road condition and inefficient
water services were assured by City Mayor Dan Lim as the city
government embarks on a P24-million rehabilitation of city
streets and the waterworks system months before the May elections.
During
his weekly radio program, "Mayor's Report" over
dyRD yesterday, the mayor enumerated the repairs to be undertaken
for the city waterworks which are considered an "urgent
need".
Lim
issued marching orders for waterworks supervisor Engr. Wellington
Pilongo to finish the project as soon as possible.
Meanwhile,
the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) committee on engineering and
public works chaired by Kag. Oscar Glovasa adopted proposed
ordinance 04-07 approving a supplemental budget for the concreting
and asphalting of various city streets, revamp of pipelines
of the city waterworks, installation and construction of traffic
and light posts and purchase of a lot for a much-needed access
road.

The
supplemental budget was approved by Mayor Lim as he
promised to undertake road concreting projects in identified
priority busy streets.
Of
the total infrastructure fund allocation, P8,041,000
is allotted for the cementing of Gallares Street, P4-million
for the Booy-Taloto Road and P2,507,000 for the road
going to the Capitol Site starting from the CPG Avenue
intersection fronting the Bohol Wisdom School.

The
road concreting project is allotted a total P14,548,000.
On
the other hand, road maintenance will also be undertaken by
asphalt overlay in J.S. Torralba Street, Marapao Street, G.
Visarra Street and the road going to the City Central Market
and Integrated Bus Terminal which costs a total of P3.8-million.
Electrical
installation and construction of traffic light posts along
CPG Avenue and CPG to M.H. del Pilar Streets is also underway
with a total allocation of P735,000.
WATERWORKS
REVAMP
The
mayor presented during his radio program yesterday the prioritized
steps to improve the performance of the city waterworks system
and meet the increasing water demand in the rural barangays.
Replacement
and upgrading of old and inadequate distribution pipelines
in problem service areas in barangays Ubujan, Manga and Taloto
will be undertaken.
Current
pipes serving these problem areas have 1-inch pipes, thus,
the inadequate flow of water. These old pipes will be replaced
with 4-inch pipes.
According
to Pilongo, the Ubujan-Taloto road along the coastal area,
with a total distance of 2-kilometers, will be prioritized
while other distribution pipelines in Ubujan, Taloto and Manga
will also be replaced with 2-inch pipes.
Aside
from the improvement of pipelines, pumping units will also
be upgraded. Pressure-release-valves will be installed at
designated lowest and highest points to release trapped air
within undulating pipelines in order to provide continuity
of water flow to concessionaires.
Chlorinator
machines will be set-up in all pumping units to ensure 100%
potability, Pilongo bared.
The
waterworks revamp is initially allotted P4-million which is
part of the supplemental budget.
RE-OPENING
OF ACCESS ROAD
An
access road from the Capitol Site going to the Central Market
in barangay Dao will also be re-opened.
The
road was closed down since part of which is owned privately.
The
said lot will be purchased by the city government and is funded
P1-million in the supplemental budget for its acquisition.
