Kidnap attempt
in Albur foiled

An 11-year old grade school student barely escaped his would-be kidnappers after a fish vendor foiled them in barangay Poblacion Albur town last Monday.

The boy, a grade 4 elementary student at the Albur Central Elementary School was on his way home around 11 o'clock in the morning when a black van parked near his path.

In their investigation, the boy told Albur PNP that after the van stopped one of the passengers called on him.

Well, last week PERC (Political and Economic Risk Consultancy in Hongkong), based on interviews of over 1,400 expatriate-businessmen in thirteen countries in Asia, tagged the Philippines as "the most corrupt nation in Asia." We have toppled Indonesia as a shameful king of dishonor.

Typhoons, budget delays
cause hunger incidence

Destructive typhoons and delays in the release of funds for the government's feeding program led hunger incidence to a record-high 19 percent in the past three months, the Department of Social Welfare and Development said Tuesday.

DSWD Secretary Esperanza Cabral said the country is still recovering from a series of destructive typhoons that hit Metro Manila and major parts of Luzon and the Visayas in the latter part of 2006.
