Balili offered to
run for governor
 


Former Pres. Joseph Estrada has offered Manila-based Boholano businessman Angelo Balili to run for Bohol governor in a bid to lead the opposition campaign trail in the province for the May polls.

Balili confirmed this to the Chronicle just before deadline last night after a two-hour talk with Senator Jinggoy Estrada at the Estrada home at Polk St., in San Juan City past 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon.

Arroyo orders P1-B
for war on hunger

MANILA.-, Confronted by the specter of a large number of Filipinos going hungry, President Macapagal-Arroyo has ordered the release of a billion pesos for "emergency hunger mitigation" in depressed areas of Metro Manila and in some provinces found to have a high incidence of hunger.

The President ordered the release of the funds for the government's food-for-school and food-for-work programs and for various feeding programs of the religious and nongovernment organizations after she convened the National Nutrition Council in Malacañang last Friday.

  CHR denies clearing Palparan,
hits AFP on extra-judicial deaths

Acting Commission on Human Rights (CHR) chair Dominador Calamba II hits the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for not sufficiently answering cases of human rights violations lodged against them as he clarified retired Gen. Jovito Palparan is not yet exonerated from charges of extra-judicial killings.

Calamba, together with commissioner Quintin Quito III, disputed the statement made by fellow CHR commissioner Eligio Mallari who earlier claimed that the human rights body will likely adopt the findings on the investigations on Palparan.

In a scale of 10 (most corrupt) the Philippine government was rated 9 and the Private sector only at 4.6. But make no mistake about it, it takes two to tango. There are many government crooked deals cooked due to the participation of the Private sector (contractors, suppliers, to give two examples).
