Admin sweeps local polls

The administration Lakas-CMD showcased a landslide victory in the provincial, congressional and local levels during last Monday's elections which confirmed the leadership of Gov. Erico Aumentado, a nationally acknowledged ally of the Arroyo administration.

Gov. Aumentado made an unprecedented lead over six other gubernatorial bets, who all failed to put up their machineries considering the "command leadership" the governor holds up to the municipal level. Aumentado now holds the record as the first Bohol governor to complete a three-year term.

The governor garnered 397,849 votes, which is 90% of the votes cast while the remaining 10% was divided among the six other bets, namely: Roberto Cericos, 10,790 votes; Renato Dalay, 8,696; Mario Magat, 6,669; Teofanes Dumaloan, 1,341 and Peter Peligrino, 381.

In his victory statement issued during an interview with dyRD last Thursday, Gov. Aumentado said "sincerest thanks to the Almighty, then to the Boholanos for the historic mandate which is both an inspiration and a challenge for me to pursue with more vigor our development programs."

He considers his victory as a "humble experience for one whose mandate carries a responsibility to serve the province with the highest expectation of the people to do more for its develoment."

His running mate, Vice Gov. Julius Herrera garnered 296,153 votes to win over BM Godofreda Tirol who pooled 61,362 votes.

In the provincial board, the administration suffered only one defeat.

Proclaimed winners in the first district were Loon Mayor Yul Lopez, 99,694 votes; Ae Damalerio, 77,286; re-electionist Jose Veloso, 73,612. Re-electionist BM Felix Uy who got 70,991 votes failed to make it to the magic 3.

In the second district, re-electionist BM Amalia Tirol topped with 87,182 votes followed by Inabanga Mayor Josephine Jumamoy, 78,286 and re-electionist Ma Fe Lejos, 65,593 votes.

Newcomer Bienvenido Molina, Jr. topped in the 3rd district with 92,910 votes followed by re-electionist Corazon Galbreath, 86,376; Carmen Vice Mayor Josil Trabajo, 70,202 and lawyer Aster Piollo, 53,593. Other bets were Mario Balbin, 28,667; Edgar Tac-an, 21,473; Salvador Diputado, 15,864 and Nilo Sarigumba, 9,910.

CONGRESSIONAL RACE

The three Lakas bets for congressmen grabbed the majority votes.

Re-electionist 1st dist. Rep. Edgar Chatto made a grand victory with 127,561 votes while his arch political rival lawyer Victor de la Serna pooled 13,986 votes.

Re-electionist 2nd dist rep. Roberto Cajes likewise won by landslide victory with 106,723 votes against Wenceslao Garcia's 9,488 votes.

The hotly contested third congressional district had lawyer Adam Jala, son of last termer Rep. Eladio Jala emerged as the winner with 65,081 votes followed by former Gov. Rene Relampagos, 62,022 votes or a margin of 3,059 votes. Relampagos filed his electoral protest against Jala for discrepancies in the appreciation of the ballots. (See: separate story)

Other congressional bets who showed early momentum in the campaign were BM Dionisio Balite with 28,976 votes followed by lawyer Alexander Lim, 16,737 votes.

Victoriano Inte, 73 and Rigoberto Madera, 52 votes Prov'l Comelec Supervisor Veronico Petalcorin, chairman of the Provl Board of Canvassers proclaimed the winners last Thursday at the Prov'l SP session hall at the Capitol building. He was assisted by Prov'l Prosecutor Macario Delusa and Dep-Ed Supt. Cerina Bolos, as members.

The winners will take their oath of office 12 noon on June 30.

PROCLAMATION GUESTS

Aside from the local media who covered the proclamation of the winners, movie actor turned politician Cesar Montano graced the proclamation rites last Thursday.

Others present were Bohol First Lady Greenie Aumentado and daughter Rica; lawyer Florlinda Herrera, wife of the vice governor who came from Washington DC where she works as RP labor attaché, Rep. Chatto's wife, Pureza, and daughter; newly elected Trinidad Mayor Baby Cajes, wife of Rep. Cajes and Adam's parents, Rep. Eladio and Remy Jala.

MAYORALTY RACE

Except for 10 towns, 90% of the mayoralty bets running under Lakas-CMD won during last Monday's elections.

This is again reflective of the solid machineries of the ruling Lakas-CMD which were strengthened in the district levels by the respective congressional bets, Chatto, Cajes and Jala.

Other mayoralty bets who wanted to run under the shadow of the administration party grabbed the party affiliation under KAMPI, known to be the party identified with Pres Arroyo. (with reports from Ric Obedencio)
