City
Mayor Dan Lim grabbed to win his second term as city chief
executive with a wide margin of 3,000 votes over his political
archrival, former City Mayor Joe Torralba in what was perceived
as a hotly contested one-on-one mayoralty derby.
Lim
pooled 17,296 votes against Torralba's 13,298 votes or a lead
of 3,998. In NAMFREL's unofficial tabulation, Torralba won
only in two districts, Cogon and San Isidro while Lim led
in Bool, Booy, Cabawan, Dampas, Dao, Manga, Mansasa, Poblacion
I, Poblacion II, Poblacion III, Taloto, Tiptip and Ubujan.
The
battle cry of the opposition "Tagbilaran Luwasa"
failed to capture the support of the electorate despite the
massive attacks lodged over daily radio broadcasts in city
radio stations.

The
3,998 margin could be the biggest margin recorded in
city mayoralty derbies. However, during the 1980 local
polls, a bigger margin was seen with the victory of
then City Mayor Jose Ma Rocha against the votes of his
rivals Joe Torralba and the late lawyer Nerio Zamora
combined.
Lim's
running mate Vice Mayor Nuevas Tirol-Montes failed to
recapture her second term after she was overshadowed
with the votes for her rival, City Kagawad Jose Antonio
Veloso garnered 16,031 votes against Montes' 13,717
or a margin of 2,314votes. Veloso is the brother-in-law
of re-elected 1st District Rep. Edgar Chatto where Tagbilaran
belongs.
Lim,
Veloso and the 10 city councilors were proclaimed last
Wednesday by the City Board of Canvassers.
