Mayor
Bong Bullecer of Loay town is demanding an investigation
on the alleged presence of goons during the last elections
He
told the Chronicle that armed men were in barangay Tayong
Oriental on the eve of the election presumably to "terrorize"
his supporters since said barangay was identified with
his political camp.
Anticipating
intimidation by the armed men, Bullecer narrated, they
have to move out some voters from the area as early
as 3 o'clock dawn on election day.
|
In
fact, he has to request assistance from private supporters
to lend them vehicles to transport some voters to the town
proper.

Bullecer
said that the residence of Tayong Oriental barangay
captain Terencio Banwag was almost surrounded by armed
men. The alarming situation later forced them to evacuate
some 140 voters out of the more than 500 electorate
in the said uptown barangay.
"This
narration could not be scripted since there were really
people who were evacuated down to the poblacion area
early dawn on election day," the mayor said.
"We
will not fold our arms on this incident as we do not
want this repeated in next elections in this once peaceful
town of Loay," he stressed.

The
mayor, during an interview said he is exposing their opponents'
ploy not because he lost in the elections, but for the people
to know what actually happened in Loay during the last elections.
Bullecer
even said there are unconfirmed reports that some of those
armed men were members of the Philippine Army. He will seek
clarification on this from higher PA authorities based in
the province.
He
likewise confirmed that "vote buying was unbelievable
in Loay since a household was offered P10,000 to P20,000."
Reacting
to Bullecer's statements, Mayor-elect May Lim-Imboy denied
the mayor's allegations saying that it was Bullelcer's group
which hired goons during the last elections.
Imboy
admitted that vote buying was "unavoidable" but
swiftly said that they did not use vote buying for her to
win. "The people clearly supported her as shown in the
huge margin in the mayoralty race," Ms. Imboy stressed.
