Election returns show women power

More women leaders are holding elective posts as shown in the number of winners in mayoralty race while the number of lady board members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and municipal vice-mayors apparently remains the same after May 14, 2007 elections.

The electorate has elected five provincial board members, 12 municipal mayors, eight vice-mayors.

The Provincial Board of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan has now six lady board members, including Sangguniang Panlalawigan federated president Frances Bobbith Cajes-Auza, daughter of incumbent and reelected Rep. Roberto C. Cajes, second district.

Board Member-elect neophyte Aster Piollo, a lawyer, is added to the list. She represents third district along with re-elected BM Ester Corazon J. Galbreath.

Inabanga Mayor Josephine Socorro C. Jumamoy successfully made a comeback representing second district. With Jumamoy are re-elected BMs Amalia R. Tirol and Ma. Fe Camacho-Lejos.

Still on the grip of their respective turfs after the elections are Cortes Mayor Apolinaria Balistoy; Buenavista Mayor Elsa Tirol, Mayor Theresa Camacho, Getafe; Mayor Myrna Naldoza-Schreuirs, Garcia-Hernandez and Mayor Henrietta L. Gan, Valencia.

Neophytes are Mayor-elect Victoria Chatto, mother of reelected Rep. Edgar Chatto; Mayor-elect Tesalonica Boyboy of Pres. Carlos P. Garcia; Mayor-elect Judith Cajes, wife of Cajes, Trinidad; Mayor-elect Ma. Fe A. Piezas, Guindulman; and Mayor-elect Rosemarie Lim-Imboy, wife of PCL president Brigido Z. Imboy, Loay.

Mayor-elect Gregoria Pepito of Batuan and Mayor-elect Sylvia Adame, Dimiao, who are not strangers in said posts, are also in the list. Pepito was voted upon in 2001 elections but later on she was dislodged for a question of residency while Adame already served Dimiao for three terms until her husband took the reign in 2004.

Newcomers in the vice-mayoralty positions include Vice-Mayor-elect Marilyn R. Uy of Baclayon; Vice-Mayor Necita Digaum, Catigbian; and Vice-Mayor-elect Valerie Ann Torrefranca-Narona, daughter of reelected Mayor Jimmy Torrefranca, Sagbayan; and Vice-Mayor Ann Piquero Dy, Candijay.

Those who were re-elected are Vice-Mayor Cecilia Rebusora; Vice-Mayor Marivic Anana Golosino, Guindulman; and Vice-Mayor Ester Tabigue, Mabini. Tranquilina Maniwang of Sikatuna also made a successful comeback as vice-mayor-elect after serving as Mayor for three terms. (Ric V. Obedencio)
