Towns get reward
for 12-0 TU sweep
By KIT BAGAIPO

Five Bohol towns that delivered a 12-0 vote for the administration's Team Unity (TU) senatorial slate will each get P2-million worth of projects as a "reward" from Malacañang.

This announcement was made by Gov. Erico Aumentado in front of 47 town mayors gathered during an assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines - Bohol Chapter last Friday at the Governor's Mansion.

Meanwhile, five other towns where TU scored 11 to 1 will also be receiving P100,000 worth of projects from the government.

Aumentado, president of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines and the League of Provinces of the Philippines (ULAP-LPP), relayed Pres. Arroyo's gratitude to the ten town mayors who were able to muster support for TU.

The five towns where all 12 senatorial bets of TU landed in the Magic 12 are Buenavista, Valencia, Danao, Dagohoy and Getafe.

The towns of Balilihan, Antequera, Sagbayan, Lila and Sierra Bullones supported 11 of Team Unity's bets.

According to Aumentado, he is awaiting the release of project funds from Malacañang after sending a Comelec certified copy of final tabulations in the senatorial race from the 10 towns where administration senatorial bets obtained overwhelming support.

Days before the elections, the governor was optimistic and gave a prediction that 12 towns could carry his marching orders for an all-out support to the Team Unity bets.

In fact, Aumentado wrote a letter to the mayors who are allied with the Team Unity coalition to show gratitude to Pres. Arroyo for the many projects in the province that she funded by giving her senators that would likewise back her programs.

A similar letter was sent by Aumentado to the members of ULAP and LPP after the organization adopted a resolution reaffirming their stand behind the Team Unity senatoriables.

Danao Mayor Louis Gonzaga told the Chronicle yesterday that he did not expect his constituents could deliver a TU sweep in the polls. He, however, urged townmates to vote for the administration senatorial bets adhering to the governor's appeal.

MAYORS' PROJECTS

All five mayors said they are happy that their constituents supported their call for a 12-0 shutout.

They likewise expressed gratitude for the president's reward while they already have identified specific projects and beneficiaries of the P2-million grant from Malacañang.

In an interview with the Chronicle yesterday, Danao Mayor Louis Gonzaga said he will include the P2-million for his town's organic vegetable production and eco-tourism program, which he views as major sources of livelihood in Danao.

Getafe Mayor Theresa Camacho, on the other hand said she will commit the reward to livelihood projects in her town's island barangays.

For her part, Mayor Henrietta Gan of Valencia told the Chronicle that an ongoing fishport improvement project, which is almost finished, will hopefully be completed with the P2-million fund.

7-4-1 VOTING

While Bohol is widely perceived as an administration bailiwick, the governor's efforts to marshal majority of the 48 mayors to back Team Unity, did not yield as much as a 7-4-1 score for TU, Genuine Opposition and a lone independent who landed in the Magic 12.

Boholano movie actor Cesar Montano (369,807 votes) topped 6 other TU candidates after final tabulations were made official by the Comelec last week.

Following Montano is Rep. Prospero Pichay with 254,764 votes, Sen. Edgardo Angara (238, 401), Rep. Miguel Zubiri (214,146) and Sen, Joker Arroyo (203,233).

Loren Legarda (201,214) came in 6th place followed by reelectionists Sen. Ralph Recto (198,815) and Sen. Manuel Villar (196,355).

Rounding up the 9th to 12th spot are Mike Defensor 190,919, Francis Pangilinan (184,261), Francis Escudero (170,869) and Noynoy Aquino (163,648).

It can be noted that Team Unity occupied the first five slots.

Legarda, who is topping the national tabulations, placed sixth while her fellow GO frontrunners Villar and Escudero are on the 8th and 11th place, respectively.
