At
least three re-elected town mayors have emerged as contenders
to become the next president of the League of Municipalities
of the Philippines (LMP) Bohol Chapter. |
The
three mayors who have signified interest in the post to be
vacated by outgoing LMP President, Inabanga Mayor Josephine
Socorro Jumamoy are Anda Mayor Paul Amper, Jagna Mayor Exuperio
Lloren and Dimiao Mayor Sylvia Adame.
Jumamoy,
who is returning to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan after being
elected as one of three board members in the 2nd District,
will end her term on June 30.
This
early, Amper is eyeing the post and is already campaigning
with his fellow chief executives.1

During
an interview with the Chronicle, Amper stressed that
he has been serving as town mayor of Anda for 22 years
and sees the LMP presidency a privilege that would cap
his political career.
Amper
also noted that in 2001 the mayors' league president
came from the 1st congressional district and in 2004
Jumamoy, of the 2nd district, took over. He said it
is time a mayor from the 3rd district be elected as
league president.
Meanwhile,
in a separate interview with the Chronicle, Lloren admitted
that he is eyeing for the post but will abide with the
Lakas-CMD party decision when the time comes to elect
a new league president.

The
Jagna mayor, who was elected for his third term by a wide
margin against his opponent in the recent polls, said he will
await for the consensus among his fellow mayors allied with
the administration party.
Likewise,
Adame indicated that she will stand with the majority of Lakas
mayors and whoever the provincial officials led by Gov. Erico
Aumentado would endorse.
Jumamoy
said that while she ends her term on June 30, the election
of a new LMP president may be undertaken two months after.
She
admitted that several town mayors have asked for her support
in the LMP election.
The
board member-elect said she will definitely be endorsing a
successor who will continue the present programs of the LMP
and someone who could coordinate well its programs with provincial
officials.
