Rico, admin bets lead counting

 

Gov. Erico Aumentado is considered the winner in the gubernatorial race after his opponents could hardly garner even 4% of the votes that the re-electionist governor pooled during last Monday's election.

Once the last ballot is canvassed, Aumentado will emerge as the first governor in the province who got re-elected twice.

The unofficial figures from NAMFREL, as of 7:30 last night showed that Gov. Aumentado garnered 108,856 votes from 839 precints (out of 3,263) in the province which is comprised of three congressional districts.

Vote buying, disenfranchise-ment, violence, rigging of counting, variants of the "dagdag-bawas" and the undemocratic coercion of the "command votes" were still there. Let us just say that the magnitude of the electoral abomination was not that heavy.

Cayetano to SC: Issue rule
on stray 'Cayetano' vote


MANILA. Opposition senatorial candidate Alan Peter Cayetano filed a petition before the Supreme Court to question the resolution of the Commission on Elections declaring "Cayetano" votes as stray.

Leila de Lima, Cayetano's legal counsel said that the Genuine Opposition bet's 14-page petition seeks a high court ruling to nullify the poll body's May 10 decision as "having been issued with grave abuse of discretion tantamount to excess of jurisdiction."
