Towns get reward
for 12-0 TU sweep

Five Bohol towns that delivered a 12-0 vote for the administration's Team Unity (TU) senatorial slate will each get P2-million worth of projects as a "reward" from Malacañang.

This announcement was made by Gov. Erico Aumentado in front of 47 town mayors gathered during an assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines - Bohol Chapter last Friday at the Governor's Mansion.

Meanwhile, five other towns where TU scored 11 to 1 will also be receiving P100,000 worth of projects from the government.

MANILA. Three days of a consistent trend landing eight opposition bets among the top 12 senatorial candidates ended last night when the continuation of the national canvass changed the ratio to 7-3-2, dropping one from the opposition for a candidate of Team Unity (TU).

Replacing the Genuine Opposition's Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III in 12th spot was Miguel Zubiri, among TU candidates who received strong support from voters in Cebu City and Cebu province, known administration bailiwicks.

ANALYZING THE SENATE RESULTS

 

The COMELEC Senate Tally (at press time) is still 8-2-2 in favor of the Genuine Opposition. That is a resounding opposition victory, considering that the two independents (Pangilinan and Honasan) are not GMA fans.


With 45 million registered voters with a 60% turnout (27 million voters), the COMELEC has already canvassed 80% of the Certificates of Canvass representing 21.7 million in total votes counted. That should leave a mere 5.5 million to be counted.

The nation gave the Opposition a smashing victory because the Senate retrains the legislative check and balance vehicle with the independent Supreme Court as its judicial counterpart.
