Four bets for SK to perpetuate dynasty?

Are local officials perpetuating dynasty by allowing their children to actively join the Sangguniang Kabataan or is it just for the noble desire to serve the public?

At least four aspirants for Sangguniang Kabataan provincial federated (SKPF) president have surfaced recently even before the municipal level takes off.

The latest to signify is the 17-year old Sandrena Naldoza Schreurs, daughter of Garcia-Hernandez Mayor Myrna N. Schreurs. She is slated to join the derby for SK highest post, said his father Vim Schreurs in an interview yesterday.

"Ï don't want to stop her personal ambition," said Vim, saying he will support her and serves as her adviser.

But Vim said that this could only happen if his daughter gets elected in the SK municipal level. Schreurs counts on the support of 26 of 30 barangays. Sandrena, 17, a first year nursing student, is the fourth to have an inclination to serve as SKPF president. She was uncontested in the recent elections of barangay East Canayaon.

Earlier on, Jean Cajes, daughter of Congressman Roberto Cajes, reportedly wanted to become SKPF president, apparently to follow the footsteps of her sister Frances Bobbith Cajes-Auza, who served for five years after two SK polls postponement in 2005 and 2006.

Also, Maria Fe Cadelina, daughter of Bilar Mayor Fanuel Cadelina and Rochelle Brigitte Imboy, daughter of Loay Mayor Mae Lim Imboy, are eyeing the same post that may earn the lucky one to be an ex-officio member of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.

For his part, Mayor Cadelina said in separate interview that his daughter has not yet made up her mind but whatever would be the decision it could be the family's collective decision.

Maria Fe Cadelina, 17, a second year nursing student, was also uncontested in barangay Cabacnitan, Bilar town, the mayor said. He added that there is big chance for her to clinch the post in the municipal level because she has with her 15 out of 19 barangays.

Vim Schreurs said he and his wife Myrna are banking on the support of the so-called Group of Ten mayors in 3rd district while at the same time courting other mayors.

The Group of Ten has not reached a decision yet whether to throw support or not to his daughter after its initial meeting in G-Hernandez last week, he said. (RVO)
