At
least one person was dead and millions of pesos worth of seaweed
farms in Bien-Unido damaged in the aftermath of typhoon 'Lando'
last week even as tornados hit two islets in Pres. Carlos
P. Garcia, destroying some 100 households.
Sketchy
reports reaching the Chronicle bared that a landslide occurred
in barangay Lusong, Buenavista town along the highway to Danao
town but no one was injured nor casualty. Also, a river in
San Miguel town overflowed and some farms of barangays Poblacion
and Bayongan adversely affected, the report said.
This
came despite exclusion of the province of Bohol from pathway
of "Lando" by the Philippine Atmosphere Geo-sciences

In
an islet of Mawmawan, off Bien-Unido town, Lalaine Abrasada,
13, was hit by a falling G-melina tree that destroyed
the house while she was sleeping in the afternoon of
nov. 19, 2007 as confirmed by Mayor Nino Rey Boniel
in an interview yesterday.
Officials
here said that more than 1,000 hectares of seaweeds
farms off island-barangays of Bilangbilangan and Hingutanan
were partly devastated by 'Lando.' But Boniel said there
was not yet estimate of the damage of the multi-million
dollar seaweed farms.

Boniel
minced no words of assailing Pag-asa's failure of providing
accurate forecasting since they thought "Lando"
would not hit the town ased on its prediction. But when it
reached the town, it was no ordinary wind blow but really
a storm that caught everybody flat-footed, he said.
The
mayor said that he will utilize the 30% of the calamity fund
of his town for rehabilitation and preparation for up-coming
super-typhoon "Mina." He also alerted the residents
in or near the coastal areas.
In
island town of CPG, two islets of Butan and Gaos were badly
ruined by twisters, said Vice-Mayor Nestor Abad in an interview.
He
said that initial findings of the Municipal Disaster Coordinating
Council (MDCC) that conducted ocular inspection bared that
some 50 houses in Butan and another estimate of 50 houses
in Gaos were damaged. But there were no injuries nor casualties
wrought by the tornados in the evening of November 19, 2007.
The
extent of the damage was not yet available, Abad said.
He
said that MDCC is contemplating to use the calamity fund to
help the affected families. But he has to coordinate with
Mayor Tesalonica Boyboy, who was out of town last week when
contacted for comment.
He
said most of the families affected by "Lando" d
epend largely on fishing as their source of livelihood.
Abad
added that the town officials are also working to get ready
for the predicted super tyhoon "Mina" that is expected
to hit in Bicol region and some eastern Visayas provinces.
