Pinoy Media Congress
in Silliman, Nov 7-9

 

Over 300 media experts, communication educators and mass communication students, mostly from Visayas and Mindanao and some parts of Luzon, are expected to gather at Silliman University, Nov. 7 to 9, to attend three national events dubbed "3-in-1 in Silliman."

Organized by the Philippine Association of Communication Educators (PACE) with the co-sponsorship of media giant ABS-CBN Corp., "3-in-1 in Silliman" is a rare convergence of well-known media experts and celebrities, corporate media executives, communication scholars, educators students of mass communication. It is bannered by Pinoy Media Congress 2007 (Visayas-Mindanao Edition), the first to be held outside Metro Manila. The two other events are the first PACE Echo Seminar Series sponsored by Anvil Publishing, Corp. and the annual PACE National Conference.

Big names and personalities, many from ABS CBN as well as other media organizations, are expected to grace these events as resource persons in the different sessions. ABS-CBN CEO Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III will deliver the keynote speech on Nov. 8.

Other ABS CBN personalities who will grace the event are news and current affairs head Maria Ressa, ABS CBN managing director Gina Lopez, ABS CBN creative writer Ricky Lee and optical media board head Edu Manzano.

   

Invited speakers from other networks are vice president of the Intercontinental Broadcasting Corporation Bob del Rosario and program manager of National Broadcasting Corporation Agerico Arias.

With this year's theme, "Media Policy Regulation, Ethics and Practice," PMC aims to continue serving as a venue for interaction among media experts, teachers and students of communication towards the improvement of media content, practice and policy. Issues and topics about communication, broadcasting, journalism and allied disciplines current and relevant information in the field will be provided to students and teachers.

Ramon Magsaysay Awardee and former DENR Secretary Angel Alcala will deliver the opening remarks during the PACE National Conference. Other speakers are Asian Media Information Center (AMIC) Singapore Research Director Kalinga Seneviratne, former director of the SU School of Communication Dr. Crispin Maslog, and environmental journalist Ma. Diosa Labiste.

PACE is an organization of mass communication teachers and institutions that offer degrees in communication arts, advertising, broadcasting, journalism, and communication research. Silliman University is one of the founding institutional members of PACE. This year's PACE vice president is Dr. Rosario Baseleres, dean of the SU college of Mass Communication. (Ritche M. Galon)
