Tight schedule
for ALA Boys

With less than a month before their respective crucial fights here and abroad, Bohol's ring sensation and the reigning world flyweight Nonito Donaire Jr., world title contenders Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista and AJ "Bazooka" Banal have just entered the crucial stage of their preparations at the ALA Gym in Cebu City.

The 24-year-old Donaire who traces his roots to the progressive town of Talibon, Bohol is stepping up his training for his Dec. 1 defense against mandatory challenger Luis Maldonado at the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, USA. Nonito Donaire Sr., is personally supervising his General Santos City-raised Fil-Am son at the world-class gym of boxing patron Antonio L. Aldegue.

Donaire will serve as commentator to the Juan Manuel Marquez-Rocky Juarez WBO superfeatherweight showdown today.

The Candijay, Bohol-native Bautista who is an adopted son of boxing-loving Tagbilaran City, has increased the tempo of his sparring sessions as he braces for his important comeback fight against the dangerous Antonio Meza of Mexico in the mainer of the Dec. 2 boxing card at the Araneta Coliseum. Bautista (23-1, 17 KOs) is aching for a big win against Meza (23-2, 16KOs).

The Ermita, Cebu-raised Banal who is undefeated in 16 fights with one draw and 12 KOs will go up against the more seasoned Mexican Jovanny Soto on the undercard. (Manny B.)
