'Lando' left 1 dead;
Tornado hits islet

At least one person was dead and millions of pesos worth of seaweed farms in Bien-Unido damaged in the aftermath of typhoon 'Lando' last week even as tornados hit two islets in Pres. Carlos P. Garcia, destroying some 100 households.

  Sketchy reports reaching the Chronicle bared that a landslide occurred in barangay Lusong, Buenavista town along the highway to Danao town but no one was injured nor casualty. Also, a river in San Miguel town overflowed and some farms of barangays Poblacion and Bayongan adversely affected, the report said.

  Democracy works best in participative governance. Participative governance means people directly vote for concerns that will spell a big difference in their lives - today and in the future.

The public pronouncement of Mayor Dan Lim to place the "New Growth Center" Development Project of the city under the microscopic scrutiny of the citizenry and for the ratification in a referendum in January 2008 is a modern-day adaptation of popular democracy. In that sense, Mayor Lim has embraced the light and is serious in retaining Tagbilaran City's enviable rating as one of the best livable cities in the country.

Folks restive over start of landfill

Alburquerque residents opposed to the hosting of a cluster sanitary landfill are asking for the cessation of works now ongoing at the project site.

Meanwhile, Gov. Erico Aumentado reassured that he will not allow the project to proceed further if his request for experts and scientists in the field of sanitary landfills would not be able to conduct dialogues with Albur residents.

The aggressive campaign of Bohol's growing tourism industry, dubbed as the number one tourist destination in the country, was bolstered with the visit last week of a 36-member multi-race group called "Friends of Philippines."

Public Relations Officer Rosario "Chit" Afuang of the London-based tourism office confirmed this in an interview with the Bohol Chronicle.

Former British ambassador to the Philippines Paul Dimond, in a separate interview, said he would help promote Bohol in London.

100,000 to leave
homes due to 'Mina'

MANILA. Close to 100,000 people in the northeastern part of the country are set for evacuation, upon orders of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, yesterday, the eve of the landfall of typhoon "Mina" (international codename: Mitag).

The brewing super typhoon changed direction at dawn yesterday, and was forecast to make landfall in the provinces of Aurora and Isabela on Sunday evening, instead of in the Bicol region as earlier predicted.
