Brgy, SK listing ends

Filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections will end on Thursday, while the campaign period is set, Oct. 19 to 27.

The entire election period will be from September 29 to November 13, or 30 days before and 15 days after the elections.

Comelec Provincial Officer Bernie Petalcorin said he expects no more postponement of the scheduled elections while bets have eagerly registered with barely five days left.

Meanwhile, the poll body said placing of posters and streamers of candidates are not allowed.

Maribella Decasa, of the provincial Comelec office, said that Comelec awaits for the submission of reports from municipal offices containing the number of candidates and other data until after the deadline of filing.

She said that until yesterday there is no tag yet of "hot spot" of a particular area in the province. The COC filing and other activities are going smoothly, she added.

Decasa bared that the number of voters in the entire province having 3,426 clustered precincts swelled to 765,574, including SK voters of about 59,134. Regular voters for barangay polls are placed at 696,440.

Under Comelec Resolution No. 8301, the following are strictly prohibited: bearing, carrying or transporting firearms or other deadly weapons; use of security personnel or bodyguards; bearing arms by any member or security or police organization of government agencies and other similar organizations; and organization or maintenance of reaction forces within the indicated election period.

The said Resolution also mandated the Education and Information Department is directed to do the widest dissemination in the implementation and publication of the same (Resolution).

The Resolution was signed by former Comelec chairman Benjamin Abalos and commissioners Resurreccion Borra, Florentino A. Tuason, Jr., Romeo A. Brawner, Rene V. Sarmiento and Nicodemo T. Ferrer. (RVO)
