On
its 59th year anniversary on Oct. 16, 2007, the Girl Scouts
of the Philippines Bohol Council launched its yearlong celebration
for a Diamond Jubilee Anniversary.
As
a kickoff activity, the council president with the executive
committee members of the council board, planted 60 Molave
trees along the highway of barangay San Isidro going to Corella,
Bohol. The ceremonial tree planting was in coordination with
barangay chair Artemio Case Caseñas, Jr. and barangay
kagawad Ester Budlong.

In
the afternoon, a holy mass was officiated by GSP Chaplain
Mons. Margarito Gonzaga at the GSP headquarters, then
followed by the council board meeting. A dinner and
socials highlighted the day long celebration.
It
maybe recalled that GSP Bohol Council was established
on Oct. 16, 1948, eight years after the Girl Scouts
of the Philippines was chartered under Commonwealth
Act 542 during the administration of President Manuel
L. Quezon; with the late Romana Oppus Manalo as its
chartered President and the late Sebastiana Adeser as
its first Volunteer Executive.

At
present, with the solid leadership of the Council President
Madam Maria Pureza Veloso Chatto, GSP Bohol Council serves
51 District Committee; 5,499 registered Volunteer Leaders
and 44,473 Girl Scouts all over Bohol. With the Girl Scouts
Program, our girls and young women will have countless development
opportuni-ties with its vision, mission and action. (P. Montañez)
