A re-electionist barangay captain here was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman riding in tandem a motorcycle 2 p.m. Sunday.

The victim, identified as Ramon Autida y Boncales, 30, the incumbent barangay captain of Camili-an, Ubay, was plying the national highway in barangay Lumangog aboard a motorcycle when the bonnet wearing tandem bikers drove by and gunned him down.

Autida was hit on the neck and fell off his motorcycle.

Ronald Autida, the victim's brother, who was following the latter aboard his tricycle said in an interview that he immediately rushed to his brother's side.

However, when the assailants saw that Autida was still alive, they came back and shot him again on the head. The barangay captain died on the spot, according to his Ronald Autida.

The barangay captain's brother said the gunman shouted at him that the re-electionist barangay captain had offended them.

According to Ronald Autida, his brother just came from a political meeting with his leaders and supporters in barangay Camili-an that ended past noon Sunday.

The brothers were on their way to San Pascual village to fetch the slain barangay captain's wife when the incident happened, Ronald Autida said.

In a separate interview, Ubay PNP chief P/Supt. Eduardo Saavedra said they are still looking into the motives of the shooting.

Meanwhile, family of the slain barangay leader said that the killing was politically motivated.

It allegedly involve a former barangay official who had a disagreement with Ramon Autida.
